Laana

Free · encrypted · no ads

Empty your head. Keep the memory.

Laana is a second brain for your phone. Write or speak whatever is on your mind, and Laana stores it encrypted on your own device — then helps you find it again months later. There is no account and no server, so there is nothing to sign in to.

Laana, the app's AI-generated character: a young woman with a short wavy brown bob in warm daylight.

Three steps

  1. Capture

Type it or say it. No account, no setup — your first note exists within ten seconds.

  2. Organise

Tags, moods and folders. As much or as little structure as you want.

  3. Recall

Search by word, browse by folder, or soon simply ask Laana — on your device.

What Laana does

What happens to your data — no fine print

Most "privacy apps" explain how much they care and collect everything anyway. We would rather say exactly what happens, including the parts that are not perfect.

  • There is no account and no server. Your notes go nowhere.
  • Everything sits encrypted in a database on your own phone. The key lives in your operating system keychain.
  • We hold nothing about you — no email address, no username, nothing. There is nothing to request from us and nothing to leak.
  • The AI will run on your device too. There will be no cloud mode.
  • No ads, no trackers, no analytics SDK, no data sales. Ever.
  • The flip side, said plainly: lose your phone with no export and your notes are gone. We cannot restore anything.

Frequently asked questions

Is Laana really free?
Yes. No subscription, no trial, no features behind a paywall. There is a tip jar in the app, but a tip unlocks nothing — otherwise it would be a paywall after all.
Can you read my journal?
No — and not because we promise not to: there is technically nothing to read. Laana has no server holding your notes. They do not leave your phone.
Do I need an account?
There is no account. No email address, no password, no sign-in screen. You open the app and start.
How do I back up?
In the app you make your own export: one encrypted file with a passphrase only you know. Keep it somewhere other than your phone and you can restore it on a new device. Note that your phone's own backup does not bring your notes back. The database file comes along, but its key stays behind on the old device, so a restore leaves you with something nobody can open. That device backup does cover your photos and recordings, so switch it on as well.
Can I use my notes on two devices?
No. Syncing needs a server to pass your data through, and we deliberately do not have one. Laana lives on one phone.
Where are the servers?
Only this website runs on a server, in the Netherlands. The app never talks to it.
Is Laana a real person?
No. Laana is an AI-generated character — her face and voice are generated, not recorded. We disclose this in the app and in both store listings.

Start with your first note

Laana arrives on the App Store and Google Play soon. In the meantime, read how the app works, or why no server is involved.
